Phytotherapy is widespread in the country's stomatological services, taking advantage of the benefits of economical therapy, which requires few resources for its application, and is accepted by patients due to the good results in the treatments.
Among the phytopharmaceuticals used in Stomatology, the most used are Guava, Chamomile, Garlic and Plantain, which can be purchased at the pharmacy (1) in the form of a 20% hydroalcoholic tincture (except Chamomile, which is found at 10%). and we must use adding 20 drops in half a glass of water.
Also, they can be prepared at home in the form of an infusion, by shredding the indicated part of the plant, adding it to a container with boiling water and covering the preparation for 5 or 10 minutes, then strain and consume the liquid resulting from the process. Both forms are used to make mouth rinses, after correct tooth brushing.
As a brief therapeutic guide we propose some uses with the most common plants:
(1)
In Cuba there is a parallel network of Natural, Traditional and Homepathic medicine pharmacies to those of allopathic pharmacies that are generally poorly supplied due to lack of raw materials in the pharmaceutical industry and imported medicines. The situation is so critical that the Customs of Cuba has given way to the importation of medicines duty free . (NOTE from the blogger)
Guava (Psidium guajava) is a tropical fruit native to southern Central America, especially Mexico. Its tree, commonly called Guayabo, is a family of myrtle and eucalyptus and is cultivated in tropical and Caribbean areas.
The used part of the plant are the leaves. This has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, antimicrobial and healing action. It can be used for gingivitis.
CHAMOMILE
Chamaemelum nobile commonly known as common or Roman chamomile or chamomile is a perennial herb in the Asteraceae family, native to Europe found in dry fields and around gardens and cultivated fields in Europe, North America, and South America.
The used part of the plant are the flowers and leaves. This has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, bactericidal, antifungal, antiallergic, analgesic and antineuralgic action. For this reason it can be used in case of facial neuralgia, canker sores and other mouth ulcers, traumatic injuries to soft tissues and irritations of the oral mucosa of allergic origin. Because it is toxic to the uterus, it cannot be used during pregnancy.
GARLIC
Garlic is a species traditionally classified within the Liliaceae family but is currently located in the Amaryllidaceae family, although this point is highly disputed. Like the onion (Allium cepa), the leek (Allium ampeloprasum var. porrum) and the winter onion or chive (Allium fistulosum), it is a species of economic importance that is widely cultivated and unknown in the wild.
The used part of the plant are the dry bulbs. It presents antiseptic, bacteriostatic, bactericidal, antiviral, fungicidal, diuretic and analgesic action. It is indicated in patients with oral candidiasis and toothache.
PLANTAGO MAYOR L (greater plantago)
