In 1935, the Nazi regime tightened the content of Article 175. Among other things, the maximum penalty was increased from six months to five years' imprisonment and, in addition, activities related to acts punishable under the law were expanded. Initially it only referred to sexual activity (all kinds of "obscene" actions), but the new paragraph 175a, intended for "aggravated cases", prescribed penalties of one to ten years of hard labour. Homosexuality was repressed because it was considered a sign of racial degeneration that could be transmitted, as a vice, from one individual to another; Therefore, it had to be nipped in the bud to prevent it from spreading among the population.1

book-burning was symbolic, an ‘efficacious sign’ – a sign which did something, and in doing it showed what was to be done. This ‘public relations’ aspect was not only essential to book-burning; it was even more important than the destruction of the book.

La imagen del judio y el musulman LGTBI corrompidos hasta la medula y pecaminosos vinculados a la amenaza de extranjeros y la exhaltacion del nacionalismo se usaba como esperpento espantoso en la masa recrudenciendo con leyes el aplastamiento de cualquier critica o disidencia con un cuerpo de leyes altamente represivas de manera que todos se vieran obligados a responder a los requerimientos de las elites en el poder sin la posibilidad de ser discutidas.
